Las Vegas Handyman Services

Las Vegas Handyman Services

With the number of Las Vegas handyman services rising, finding the perfect handyman for your home or business can be difficult.  It is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, except the needle is a skilled and reliable handyman and the haystack is a pile of unqualified and shady characters. But fear not!

By asking the right questions, you can separate the wheat from the chaff and find the handyman of your dreams. In this article, you will not only see how Build and Move LLC measures up, but also to understand the importance of asking the right questions when considering a handyman service for your home or business.  Let’s dive into the top 6 questions you should ask when interviewing potential handymen.

1)  “What is your experience and qualifications in this type of work?”

Asking about a handyman’s experience and qualifications is important because it ensures that the person or company you hire has the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the job safely and efficiently. Having a qualified and experienced handyman work on your home or business can save you time and money in the long run.  They will be able to identify and solve problems quickly and correctly the first time.

Choosing the right handyman can also prevent accidents or mistakes that could cause damage to your property or injury to yourself or others. It also gives you an idea of how long the handyman has been working in the field, which can be an indicator of their level of expertise and skill.

I have over 20 years experience in home repairs. I have always been the type of person that has wanted to know how things work, how to fix them myself, and how to do the repairs property. I have always been the one that friends and family have come to for help with all types of repairs!

I have worked on my own home, performed new tenant preparations in apartments and homes, and full remodels. I also have been doing paid handyman service work for over 5 years.

I also worked on sail boats for 6 years, which are really like small floating homes, and did all work from engine repair, electrical, plumbing and rigging!

I am also not scared to say “I don’t know” or to say “This is beyond my skill level.” If I don’t feel confident that you or I will be completely satisfied with the outcome, I will not take on your project.

2)  “Can you provide references or examples of previous work you’ve done?”

Asking prospective Las Vegas handyman services if they can provide references or examples of previous work they have done is important because it allows you to get a sense of the quality of work they have done in the past. By speaking with past customers or viewing examples of their work, you can get a better idea of the type of work they are capable of and the level of craftsmanship they are able to provide.

It also allows you to gauge the level of satisfaction their previous customers have had with their services and whether or not they would recommend them. This can help you make an informed decision on whether or not to hire a particular handyman service for your project.

I have worked on many different projects and have photos and videos of the work that I have done. I suggest you take a look at my YouTube page, which is continually being updated with new videos of projects. I would also gladly provide references from some of my customers if you would like to speak with them about my work. I am proud to admit that many of my clients are repeat customers and often refer me to their friends and neighbors!

3)  “Are you licensed and insured?”

When looking for a handyman, it’s important to ensure that they are licensed and insured. A license shows that they have met the state’s requirements and standards for the type of work they are performing. Insurance protects you and the handyman in case of any accidents or injuries that may occur on your property.

Having these qualifications in place gives you peace of mind that the handyman is a professional that takes their work seriously and will handle any potential issues in a responsible manner. It also ensures that you as a homeowner or business owner, will not be held liable for any damages or losses that may occur during the course of the project.

Furthermore, it’s a good idea to ask for a proof of the handyman’s insurance and license and check if it’s still valid, before hiring.

Just as in all cities in Nevada, Las Vegas handyman services are required to be licensed through the State of Nevada and local jurisdictions. Build and Move LLC is in compliance with these requirements.  We are a registered business with both jurisdictions and are professionals. We are not a fly-by-night company.  We take our work seriously and strive for a finished product that we would want in our own home!

We also have liability insurance in case anything was to happen during the course of repairs. Insurance is also a requirement in order to hold a business license and to perform work in Nevada.

Proof of insurance will be provided to you upon request.

4)  “How do you handle pricing and estimates?”

It’s important to understand the handyman’s fee structure and payment terms before hiring them.  This is to help ensure that you have a clear understanding of the costs associated with the project and that you are comfortable with the payment options available. Knowing how the handyman charges for their services and what is included in the cost can help prevent any unexpected expenses or issues from arising later on.

It’s important to inquire about any deposit fees or other upfront costs that may be required before the work begins. This way, you can budget accordingly and have a clear understanding of the financial commitment involved before hiring the handyman.

We do everything in our power to provide estimates per the job. That way, there won’t be any surprises or sticker shock when presented with the invoice. I spend quite a bit of time preparing our estimates. I have compiled a database of different repairs and how long they take me to complete on average. That way, not only will I give you an accurate estimate in cost, but also in time.

There are instances where I will charge by time for work completed. When these situations arise, I will let you know ahead of time that I am uncertain and that it will go to hourly (I bill in 15 minute increments). I still try to provide a guess as to how long I think it will take so you have a ballpark as to what to expect.

If other issues surface during repairs, I notify you immediately. I let you know that there will be added time/expense to the job, and will show you why. This does happen occasionally (finding a leaky pipe during an installation or repair work needed prior to painting) and I will be as transparent as possible.

5)  “What is your availability and how long will the project take?”

Knowing the handyman’s availability and estimated completion time for the project is crucial for planning and setting expectations. This question can help you understand if the handyman will be able to start the project in a timely manner and if they have any scheduling conflicts that may delay the project. It can also help you plan for any necessary arrangements, such as taking time off work or making alternative arrangements for the use of the space that is being worked on.

Knowing the estimated length of the project can help you budget for the work and make any necessary arrangements for any disruptions to your daily routine. Overall, this question helps establish clear communication and expectations for the project.

Las Vegas handyman services are busy.  At least good ones are.  So I give you this information during the estimate process. I will always ask how soon you are hoping to have the project completed and let you know how it will fit in my schedule. For smaller jobs, I can sometimes work in a more immediate time frame, but for others, I will ensure that you have a block reserved just for your project. I do my best to accommodate your schedule.

Our normal business hours are from 8am – 6pm every day, however, we can do work outside those times for a small fee. We also offer 24 hour emergency response with an additional fee. So please keep us in mind if you hear your water heater suddenly spraying water at midnight. We can get you patched up to reduce damage and also buy you some time to work out your repair.

6)  “How do you handle any potential issues or complications that may arise during the project?”

Asking a handyman about their plan for handling potential issues or complications is important because it will give you an idea of their level of experience and professionalism. A skilled and experienced handyman will have a plan in place for dealing with unexpected problems and will be able to provide you with a clear and detailed explanation of how they will handle them.

They will also have a contingency plan in case things don’t go as planned, and they will keep you informed throughout the process. On the other hand, if a handyman does not have a plan in place or is not able to provide a clear explanation of how they will handle potential issues, it may be a red flag that they are not as experienced or professional as you would like them to be. It also indicates that they might not be able to finish the project on time or budget.

This is why it’s essential to know how the handyman will handle any potential issues or complications that may arise during the project.

One thing that I have learned from all of the different jobs that I have done in my life is to have contingency plans. I always plan for the worst just in case something was to go wrong.

A good example that I can give is an instance where I was replacing a kitchen faucet and the hot water supply line started to leak on the back side of the fitting. This required me to shut off the water to the house to stop the fitting from leaking and to mitigate water damage. Once the leak was contained and inspection of the leak was done, it was obvious that the fitting was installed incorrectly (there was major scoring on the PEX tubing and the previous installer did not follow the manufacturers specifications) causing the leak.

Knowing how to handle an emergency situation like this was crucial in not having additional issues or damage arise.
